IPRM Celebrates the Launch of IPRMSA-UM Chapter & Hari Raya Gathering
The launch of IPRM’s newest student chapter sparks fresh voices, industry connections and a Raya celebration to remember.
Sunday, 20 April 2025, was one of those quiet day, yet, recorded an important milestone that will contribute significantly to the growth of the Public Relations industry in the country. On this beautiful day, IPRM officially welcomed its newest student chapter — IPRMSA UM (University Malaya) — and, it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Held in conjunction with a simple yet meaningful Raya gathering, the event wasn’t about grand gestures. No massive stage. No endless speeches. But maybe that’s what made it so special — it felt honest, warm and real.
The launch wasn’t just symbolic either. Straight after the formalities, the UM Chapter rolled up their sleeves and recorded their very first podcast. They dove right into communication and public relations topics, talking about real industry issues, real challenges and — maybe most inspiring — their hopes for where they could make a difference.
Why a podcast, you ask?
It’s part of a bigger idea. The aim is simple: give UM’s communication students early, direct exposure to industry conversations, while letting them find their own voice in the process. It’s one thing to study Public Relations; it’s another to live it, to question it, to help shape what comes next.
What stood out?
The energy. The students weren’t shy. They didn’t pretend to have all the answers, but they weren’t afraid to ask bold questions either. That willingness to explore, to challenge and rethink is exactly what our industry needs more of.
Congratulations to the entire organising team, the committed faculty members and everyone who worked quietly behind the scenes. It may have been a simple gathering, but it marked the beginning of something bigger. I can’t wait to see where IPRMSA UM takes it from here.

Welcoming the School of Communication of Xiamen University Malaysia to IPRMSA.
Despite the fact that the Communication program is still new to the university, the school is experiencing a steady growth in intake. This indicates the demand for Communication programs continues to be good and there are many opportunities for the graduates. They just need to be wholesome individuals with the right attitude, knowledge, and eagerness to excel in the profession.
I was invited to speak about the current landscape of the PR industry. It was heartening to see even the ‘introverted’ students step forward with questions and demonstrate a genuine interest in the field. I wish them all the best and am confident they will grow to become outstanding PR practitioners in the future.
Thank you to everyone at the School of Communication for the warm hospitality. We look forward to meaningful collaborations between IPRMSA Xiamen University Malaysia and IPRM.
