Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia: Connecting Information and Public Engagement
In 1950, the Department of Public Relations was formally renamed the Department of Information to better reflect its role as the government’s official spokesperson for informing the public about the nation’s philosophy, policies, and vision.
The Department’s responsibilities have become increasingly challenging due to the world’s rapid borderless development, requiring a transformation of its services to ensure that Engagement, Outreach, Big Data Analytics and Advocacy can be efficiently implemented through digital technology and in-person interactions.

IPRMSA Chapter Establishment Process Flow
1. Initiation
Step 1: The University notifies the IPRM Education Chair about its intention to establish an IPRMSA Chapter.
Step 2: The University identifies academics who are IPRM members.
If no eligible members are present, the university applies for IPRM membership for at least 2-3 advisors simultaneously.
2. Preparation
Step 3: The University retrieves the sample IPRMSA Constitution (available on the IPRM website) and adapts it to align with its own policies and guidelines for student organizations.
3. Approval
Step 4: The advising committee drafts a formal letter to the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of Student Affairs, or equivalent, seeking approval to establish the chapter.
Step 5: Include a Letter of Consent from the IPRM Education Chair, if required.
4. Registration & Launch
Step 6: Upon successful registration, the university organises a launching ceremony for the IPRMSA Chapter.
♦ The name of the chapter should follow a consistent format, e.g., “IPRMSA-UiTM Chapter.”
♦ Launch can be physical or online (physical events are the norm).
♦ It is recommended to pair the launch with an event such as a forum, seminar, or campaign.
♦ Invite key stakeholders, including the IPRM President, IPRM Council Members, and a council member as a guest speaker.
5. Integration & Ongoing Activities
Step 7: The IPRM Education Chair adds the new chapter to the IPRMSA list and ensures its inclusion in all IPRM activities.
Step 8: The chapter must organize at least one event annually and report it using the official form available on the IPRM website.
