Dato’ Sri Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, Fipr, Fapar (ASEAN)

Special Functions & PR Act Director

Position
Former Director General of the Information Department, Malaysia and Former President of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia.

Background
Dato’ Sri Ibrahim Abdul Rahman is a distinguished figure in the fields of public relations and information management in Malaysia. With a career spanning several decades, he has made significant contributions to the development of communication strategies and public engagement within both the government and the private sector.

Education
Dato’ Sri Ibrahim holds a Master’s degree in Public Relations from Boston University, USA, and a degree in Mass Communications from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has pursued further studies in Organisational Communication at Bradford University, UK. He also attended a Leadership in Development program at Harvard University, Boston, and an Advanced Leadership Program at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France. His academic background laid the foundation for his expertise in strategic communication, leadership, public relations, and media relations.

Career Highlights
1. Director General of the Information Department
In this role, Dato’ Sri Ibrahim was responsible for overseeing the dissemination of information to the public, managing government communication strategies, and enhancing the relationship between the government and citizens. His leadership was pivotal in modernising the department and adapting its strategies to the digital age.

2. President of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia
As president, he played a crucial role in promoting the standards and practices of public relations in Malaysia. Under his leadership, the institute focused on professional development, ethical practices, and the importance of effective communication in building trust between organisations and their stakeholders.

Contributions
Dato’ Sri Ibrahim has been an advocate for transparency and accountability in government communication. He has organised numerous workshops, seminars, and conferences aimed at enhancing the skills of public relations practitioners and fostering dialogue on important social issues.

Recognition
His contributions to the field have earned him various accolades and recognition from both local and international organisations. He was conferred Ahli Mahkota Perak (AMP), Pingat Kedaulatan Negara, Darjah Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Perak (DPMP), Darjah Sultan Ahmad Shah (DSAP), and Darjah Sri Sultan Ahmad Pahang (SSAP), which carries the title Dato’ Sri. At the second ASEAN Public Relations Award Ceremonies, Dato’ Sri was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award by the ASEAN Public Relations Network. Dato’ Sri Ibrahim is regarded as a thought leader in public relations and is often invited to speak at conferences and forums.

Personal Philosophy
Dato’ Sri Ibrahim believes in the power of communication as a tool for positive change. He emphasises the importance of listening to the public and engaging with communities to build a more informed society.
